| Q. |
What
is a cremation? |
| A. |
Cremation
is simply the hastening of natural processes, wherein through heat
and evaporation the body is reduced to its basic elements. It
may surprise you to learn that ashes are not the final result, they
are in fact bone fragments. These fragments are then further processed
into a powdery substance and are called cremated remains. |

| Q. |
Isn't
pet cremation an end in itself? |
| A. |
Some
people may regard it as such, but most families feel the cremated
remains of a pet they love should be afforded a resting place that
can be identified by the name and dates. This is memorialization.
Most families find that pet urns and memorials serve a basic human need to remember
their loved pets. |

| Q. |
If
I have my pet cremated, how do I know I will get my pet's ashes back? |
| A. |
Ask
your Veterinarian to guide you to a reputable pet cremation services facility.
Request a "private cremation" which indicates you do not
want your pet's cremains commingled with other animals. |

| Q. |
How
do I know what size pet ashes urn to purchase? |
| A. |
A
good rule of thumb is 1 pound of body weight equals 1 cubic inch of
cremains. Thus if your pet weighed 50 pounds under normal,
healthy conditions, you would select a pet urn that was at least 50 cubic
inches. All of our urns for pet ashes have sizes noted in the descriptions. |

| Q. |
I
would like to personalize the urn for my pet, what options do I
have?
|
| A. |
All
of our pet cremation urns provide a means of personalizing. Our Original,
Second and Keepsake Editions offer a nameplate area where, depending
on the size of the nameplate, your pet's name, significant dates or
words of sentiment are engraved. The Library Edition pet urns offer
a variety of binding label alternatives to memorialize your pet. |

| Q. |
How
do I put the ashes in the urn? |
| A. |
Typically your pet’s ashes, or cremains, are returned to you by the veterinarian or crematory providing your pet cremation services in a plastic box or other simple container. The ashes should be contained in a secured plastic bag within this container. You may transfer the entire plastic bag, with the cremains remaining the bag, into one of our pet urns.
If you find it's necessary to repackage the cremains, we suggest using an appropriately sized zip lock bag, or a plastic bag secured with a tie. Cremains are bagged to prevent an accidental loss should the pet urn be dropped or damaged.
Note: By clicking on any of the links below, for example Wood Urn, a photo of that pet cremation urn ’s access for cremains will be displayed.
Wood Pet Urns
Our Wood Urn and Photo Urn have an access panel on the underside of the urn. When you receive the urn, this access panel will be attached by only one screw to allow for its easy removal. Remove the access panel and place your bag of cremains inside the urn. The access panel can screwed back into place using the additional screws enclosed in a small zip lock bag within the pet urn.
The Portrait Urn's access panel is on the rear side of the frame. Upon removing the access panel, you will see two small wood dowels holding the photo holder in place. Remove the dowels and photo holder panel, place your photo behind the glass and replace the photo holder panel and dowels. The bag of cremains may now be placed inside the frame and the rear access panel screwed back into place. Wall hangars and additional screws are enclosed in a small zip lock bag within the pet urn. The Portrait Urn is designed to be placed either upright on a desk or table or hung on a wall.
Angel Urns To place your pet's ashes in an Original Edition, Original Edition II, Second Edition or Keepsake Edition, there is a hinged access cover on the bottom of the base. We suggest that upon receiving your packaged Angel, you turn the Gift Box upside down and open the bottom of the box. After removing the square piece of Styrofoam, the access cover will be fully exposed. Opening the cover in this manner will allow you to place your pet’s ashes in the base of the Angel without removing the Angel from the box. Then, after closing the access cover, the opposite end of the box can be opened, and the Angel, still encased in Styrofoam, can be pushed out of the box.
Library Edition Pet Urns For all sizes of the Library Edition, the books have a full length hinge allowing complete access. The "books" are held closed by magnets. The books, with your cremains enclosed, are designed to be placed in either an upright or lying down position.
If you would prefer to have your Angel Ashes pet urn sent directly to the veterinarian or crematory providing your pet cremation services, let us know when placing your order. We've found the veterinarian or crematory will transfer your pet's ashes into the urn for you.
